The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends cholesterol screening for some children and adolescents. Get your children tested if you have a family history of high cholesterol or heart disease. Also check their cholesterol if you do not know your family health history. It is also recommended for children with other factors for heart disease such as obesity, high blood pressure, or diabetes. Screening should take place after age two, but no later than age 10. For more information go to www.aap.org.
